Christmas is almost here! Time for Santa to draw up his list, ready the reindeer, and take off into the skies! No doubt this year you’re getting presents ready for your loved ones and children. What is Christmas really about though? Is it the snow, Santa, presents, or eggnog? Or maybe it’s something else?
A Season of Giving
First and foremost, Christmas is a time of giving. This is shown by giving other people presents simply for the sake of the giving itself. Do you enjoy the look on someone’s face when you give them a gift? That is almost the entire basis of Christmas in a nutshell. It’s also a good time to help out those less fortunate then yourself. Even if it’s just giving someone a card to tell them how much you care makes a huge difference to the receiver. As the giver you also benefit because you’re spreading the good cheer to another person. That warm feeling in your chest? That’s the gift of giving.
Being with Loved Ones
Christmas is usually considered one of those holidays were you spend it with loved ones. It’s not something easily ignored, and for good reason. While the gifts and good cheer are always good aspects, spending time with your loved ones on this given day is especially important. It’s just that time of year it seems that everyone can be able to agree on. It’s that time of year to set aside differences and old grievances in order to spend time with loved ones. Even if all you can do is make a phone call and can’t travel to visit loved ones, it still matters. Let your children know this time is well spent with others they love this holiday season.
Spread the Love
Not only is Christmas about helping out those less fortunate, but also about spreading the love. Maybe you have a neighbor or know someone who can’t spend the holiday with their loved ones. Why not surprise them with an invitation to Christmas dinner? Or leave a small gift on their doorstep? We should all be grateful for what we have and the fact we have someone to spend it with. However, not everyone is so lucky or fortunate. Be sure to share it with someone else this holiday season. The smallest gestures make the biggest difference to people.
During this holiday season, whatever you feel Christmas is truly about is purely up to you. We believe it’s an excellent time to spread good cheer and have a good time. Christmas is one of the best holidays on the calendar. It’s a chance to give, love, and be loved in return. So take time this season to spend it with those you care about most. Play with your children, drink eggnog, and act silly. Christmas only comes once a year. So you might as well enjoy it while it’s here in town. Then do it all over again next Christmas!
