Family Time

Family is important. Family is where you go to feel safe. Family is what you come home to at the end of the day. They’re who you draw strength from in times of need. They support you when you feel all alone in the world. So why is family time important? Well, here are a couple of reasons why spending time with family is very important.

Gives Children an Example

First and foremost, spending time with family gives children an example of what a family is supposed to be like. Studies have been done that show family time can actually help children to make important decisions in life. As they get older they’ll be introduced to new things, some good and some bad. Children who have dinner with family are less likely to do drugs as they become adults. They have to interact with their parents, and the more involved family is in a child’s life the less likely a child will be to make bad decisions. If they have a question they know who to go to for answers.

A Support Group

When we’re going through the hard times in life it’s easy to lose hope there will ever be a better tomorrow. Sometimes we need some extra support from those around us. Family provides that support. Whether it’s in the form of a kind word or a hug, family is important. They can remind you what it is you’re aiming for. Despite the hard times family won’t abandon you when the going gets tough. They’ll stand by your side even when it feels like the rest of the world has been set against you.

Never Alone

Family doesn’t abandon family. In today’s society it’s easy to get caught up just talking to friends and family through social media. However, when the holidays roll around the grind of day to day life can become difficult to deal with. What if you don’t have any plans for the holidays? When it comes to family you can always know you’ll have someone to spend time with. Even if all you can do is provide a phone call to a loved one or a card it’s still appreciated. It reminds us that we’re loved and cherished. That despite the holidays coming in someone is always there to remember to tell you they’re glad you exist.

Remember to spend some time with family this holiday season. While life can get busy, and especially during this time of the year it is, remember to slow down a bit. Call up family to let them know you love them. Maybe plan an outing or just drop in to say hi. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Just remember to let them know despite the holidays you always look forward to hearing from them. It’s always fun to spend time with family. While they can drive us a little crazy at times, when the going gets tough they always have our back.
