Top Reasons You Should Never Yell at Your Kids You just got home from work, and you found out that your house was a mess. The culprit? Your kids have been playing for hours, and they did not even bother cleaning up the pile of dirt they left after romping around. In this kind of situation, the most tempting thing for several parents to do is to start yelling and acting like a bad cop. But is it really necessary and effective to yell? Are there better ways to have the mess straightened up even without having to raise your voice? Well, for weary, tired and fatigued parents (or mainly for most of those who just feel like they are a little low on patience), the only thing left to do is to just start shouting. Unfortunately, this does not do anything at all in keeping your kids in line. For the most part, it is ineffective and a complete waste of energy to yell. In fact, it never worked in the past, and it never ever will.

Not Worth It

When you yell, your kids may get scared and a bit frantic for a while, but the effect wears off eventually. In fact, you will only end up exhausting your time and energy raising your voice and stretching your vocal chords. This is a stressful practice for you, plus your kids may even have their earphones plugged in, so how can you ever compete with that? Perhaps they will do as you wish the first time you give them a good yell, but the next time you do it, they are unlikely to react positively to it. In the end, you will realize that your shouting is pointless, ineffective, and rude, particularly if your neighbors have to listen to your booming voice everyday and every night.

Barely Gets Their Attention

Once kids are used to hearing you yell all the time, they will think of it as another one of your classic style to try to get them to do things, but they are already immune to it. Just think about it – do you think you will actually follow someone wholeheartedly because he or she shouts at you all the time? You may end up shouting back, and it will only be an endless exchange of nearly barbaric way of “talking” to each other. Not only are you training your children to become just like you and yell all the time to make someone do what they want, but you are living in a chaotic home where shouting seems to be the name of the game all the time. Naturally, you want peace and order at home instead of an ambience that resembles a war zone, right?

Stop the Yelling

To sum it all up, you have to realize the fact that yelling does not do you – or your children – any good. You end up feeling tired and exhausted after shouting your guts out, and your kids also feel drained from hearing you scream at the top of your lungs. If you want them to follow you, do it the “civilized” and poised way, which is by talking to them calmly and being firm instead of yelling all the time.
