When kids are in extracurricular activities at school, they feel as if they are a part of something important because it is important.  When a child’s parents are involved also, it’s more important because it lifts their spirit knowing that they are being supported. It also makes them feel confident that they are being watched and, in fact, helps them do better at whatever they are doing so they will continue to get more involved. In the long run, it pays off since it will go a long way into areas of their life as they get older.

Show kids you care

Obviously, showing your kids that you care does boost their confidence in extracurricular activities and thereby. This means they will become more sociable and successful while in their working years.  Additionally, it can be harder for them to get withdrawn or become anti-social in a school or at work later on in life. In fact, while a child is in a group, team, or activity in school, it’s important for parents to be involved at school; asking questions to their teachers and coaches.  This is actually encouraged. It’s also another way to show you care because it’s sends a positive message to them and it’s a great way to illustrate that you are interested in what they are doing at school.

Involvement: Reaping the benefits

Giving them more reason to continue to stay in sports, clubs, or simply being involved at their school is a main reason to get involved.  For instance, there are clubs and organizations that encourage raising money for funding extra equipment or sports gear.  By getting involved with this, it shows that you care enough to help them raise the funds for these important items.  Additionally, it also gives them an incentive to work for something they need and want while encouraging them to succeed at raising funds for supplies. When parent volunteers help organize and chaperon funds for these types of school activities, the entire team gets uplifted.

Offering the benefits for the school community, parent volunteers help with support them by showing how important it is to participate for the purpose of the ‘bigger picture’ …that is the community as a whole.

Therefore, the school “reaps the benefits” with the involvement of parents and students together as a team. Interaction with administrators and teachers regularly affords them the opportunity to interact with their children in their daily activities. Without intrusion, you’ll be able to see what’s trending by way of fashion as they grow; giving a better understanding of what they have to go through as kids in today’s age.

It’s never too late

As a result of getting involved, whether you have done so previously or not, start getting involved. It’s imperative to get involved before they enroll in secondary school; it’s never too late to start now. Although parents can experience “volunteer burnout,” it may be experienced before they enter high school.  Yet, by the time this happens, most parents often return back to work, and if not, normally secondary schools get the shortage of volunteers.  So, looking on the bright side, get over the “burnout” stage by revamping to help out in your kids junior high years if they’re enrolled and where it’s in demand–more so–remember it’s never too late.
